In short, this storm caused flooding, snow, lots of tree damage, power outages. Sandy already moved through Cuba, Jamaica Haiti, killing nearly ~70 people there, and ~90 in the US.
Quick notes about what this storm did:
- This storm had hurricane and tropical storm force winds (70 mph!) over large areas. The result: trees down, signs and billboards down, and lots of powerlines down. ~8 million people in 15 states lost power.
- Rain. Lots of Rain. Lots of areas were flooded, including airports and subway tunnels in New York, and neighborhoods along the coast.
- Coastal areas flooded with tides many feet higher than usual. Beaches eroded and boardwalks were very damaged.
- And don't forget the snow. Over a foot fell in West Virginia and neighboring Appalachian states.
- Airports along the east coast were closed. Thousands of flights have been canceled.
- Actually, a lot of the east coast has been closed on Monday and Tuesday (and some things will be Wednesday and Thursday) including the New York Stock Exchange, school, airports.

- Article from the Washington Post: FAQ about Sandy. It's a few days old, so it has some outdates questions (like What will happen?) but also a lot of good information, like why Sandy isn't going out to sea, and how this compares to other storms. Link is here.
- National Hurricane Center information at this link here. Allows you to see where the storm is now.
- More general information is also on this blog at this link here.
- Oct. 27, in the evening. A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the west coast of Canada. A tsunami warning was made for Oregon, Alaska and Hawaii, but was later revised when there was no significate wave increases. There were also a series of aftershocks, all smaller in magnitude.
