Robo Roaches to the Rescue

Some of you who have shadowed me with the roaches have heard me talking about this for a few months. North Carolina State University has successfully developed and tested roaches that are outfitted with a device that allows for remote control of the insects in order to use them in search and rescue effort.

(For Joy's sake, I'm foregoing an image)

As described by the this story from Live Science, the team from NC State have  further fitted the animals with an array of sensors as well as the means to corral them with a mobile electronic fence generated by a drone that travels with the group.

I have had some great positive responses from guests after relating the original proof of concept. Even if it doesn't entice them to hold the animals, it at least garners a bit more respect and appreciation of them.
