Caterpillar Poop Deceives Pants!

Chemical ecologists from Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences have discovered that feces, 'frass', of the armyworm larvae tricks corn plants, via chemical signals, into believing it's being attacked by a fungal pathogen. This leads the plants to raise its defenses against pathogens, while simultaneously leaving it defenseless to predation by these hungry hungry caterpillars.
