Women and the sciences

"Conventional wisdom says that women in engineering face obstacles such as the glass ceiling, a lack of self-confidence and a lack of mentors. But psychologists who delved deeper into the issue with a new study found that the biggest pushbacks female engineers receive come from the environments they work in."
It's a common refrain, that there is a disproportionate number of women in STEM fields, and many reasons have been put forward for this. While we make the effort to encourage all ages and genders in our work, we should be conscious of the pressures in other areas of society. I'm not sure how WE can combat this trend, but it remains very important for us to make sure that everyone is encouraged equally to explore and inquire and create. With Engineer It! weekend coming up, we have an opportunity to do our part
